Walker Cup 2017

19 August 2017, Meadows

Jola Jurasinska, winner of the Walker Cup

Jola Jurasinska was the winner of the 2017 Walker Cup, with Lorna Dewar as the runner-up.

This AC competition is a one-day event, open to players with handicaps of 10 and over. The format chosen for the day was an Egyptian, with a minimum of three 18 point games to count for a winning score. The games had two hour time limits, with the addition of one minute per bisque. Standard handicap rules applied.

Ten players took to the lawns at 9.30am and all, but two, of them completed 4 rounds by close of play.  After three rounds, Jola was ahead with 114 points, followed by Jamieson on 106, Brian on 105, Richard on 105 and Lorna on 104, any of whom could have caught her, were they to win their last game and were she to lose hers. As it happened, Jola won her final game, giving her an unassailable 118 points, and leaving her an undefeated, worthy winner. Lorna was the only one of the other contenders to win her last game, thereby coming second, with only one loss and a final total of 109 points.

Congratulations to Jola on retaining the trophy for a further year.
