Basil Townsend Quaich 2010
22 May 2010, Auchincruive
The usual glorious Auchincruive weather was not enjoyed by the usual throng of sun worshipping players. Only 2 clubs were represented with Allan Hawke from Edinburgh and David Arnot from Auchincruive.
Allan used up three and a half of his bisques very early in the game, twice to deny David big break opportunities. With the lawn still bumpy and fairly tight hoop settings neither player managed more than 4 hoops in one turn, and the pace slowed as the heat built up.
David managed to edge a few hoops ahead, but failed an attempted peg out from the boundary. His decision to peg out his own ball looked to be a mistake with Allan edging ever closer as he sussed how to play against a single ball opponent. David was highly delighted to hit the peg on his fourth attempt to win by +9.
Just as the game finished the spectators arrived and were entertained to a rich afternoon tea accompanied by tall tales of how the good the match had been.
